Fungal Pathogens as Secondary to Chronic Stress
Rather than assuming disease was the primary problem, Harmony conducted a comprehensive site evaluation including visual health assessments, soil moisture testing, root inspections, an irrigation review and laboratory pathology testing. Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of Thielaviopsis and Diplodia fungi — however, the investigation determined these pathogens were secondary to years of chronic drought stress and inadequate nutrition. Dry soils, poor root development and declining canopy density indicated the palms had been under physiological stress long before the diseases became established.

A Systemic, Multi-Factor Failure
Two Harmony consultants traveled to Aqaba and spent seven days evaluating the development, having pre-reviewed plant inventories, lab reports, fertilizer and irrigation schedules, maintenance records and pesticide logs. The audit found the decline was not caused by one isolated issue. Extreme heat, desiccating winds, sandy soils, fluctuating water quality and infrastructure limitations were compounded by overwatering, nutrient loss, ineffective pest management and outdated cultural practices. The audit identified excessive irrigation, elevated soil pH, localized sodium concerns, nutrient deficiencies, insufficient organic matter, root-knot nematodes, inaccurate pest identification, overuse of broad-spectrum pesticides and maintenance practices that weakened plants.
